The 4.3 Incident is a poignant reminder of state violence, extreme political activism, and the powerlessness of civilians whose lives were entirely at the mercy of the armed forces. The guerrilla fighters who preached and promised true liberation contributed to the creation of a living hell. The state, which claimed to safeguard law and order through the eradication of those “Reds”, ended up slaughtering too many innocent people.
A Brief Timeline
UN Resolution 112, calling for a general election on May 10, 1948 under UNTCOK supervision, was rejected by U.S.S.R., Korean Communists in the North, and their sympathizers in the South.
